JBEDC has established Cambodia Bio-Energy Development Corporation (CBEDC) in Cambodia in 2006, and Laos Bio-Energy Corporation (LBEC) in Laos in 2007 to start Jatropha plantation. We have planted 500ha in Cambodia by today and planning to reach 10,000ha by 2009. In Laos, we are planning to reach 3,000ha of plantation by operating mainly in three provinces: Bokeo, Vientiane, and Savannakhet. In the future, we are also expecting to start Jatropha plantation in Egypt, Myanmar, Indonesia, and Tanzania. We harvest Jatropha seeds from the plantation in Cambodia and Laos to extract oil from them and mix with diesel oil to produce Bio-Diesel Fuel (BDF). According to the amount produced, BDF will be sold to be used for agricultural tractors, motor bikes, and cars. However, since the production level is still low now, we are planning to use Straight Vegetable Oil (SVO) method instead of mixing with diesel fuel (which is already implemented in EU countries). In addition, although our main focus has been Jatropha BDF, Bio Ethanol produced by Cassava will also be one of our interests in the future. As a start of this, a new breed Cassava, which expected to have larger yield than the original, will be planted. In Cambodia and Laos JBEDC/CBEDC also operates a Jatropha seedling nursery, and sell Jatropha seedlings and seeds. We are also planning to implement this nursery in Myanmar, Indonesia, and Tanzania in the future. Jatropha is also known in different scientific names in Japan and has been cultivated in Okinawa from a long time ago, though the main purpose has recently been for a foliage plant. We are planning to start an experimental plantation in Okinawa and Southern part of Kyushu to promote Jatropha as a potential of a source of energy besides being a foliage plant. In fastest, we can import Jatropha BDF for experimentation by 2009. In addition, we are also planning to sell Jatropha BDF produced in Asian countries in Japan.
